The women’s clothing retailer Free People is opening a store on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.
The store will be located at 1425 Woodward Ave., according to job postings on Free People’s website for positions such as a store manager and a stylist and a sign posted in the window of the storefront, in the space that used to be home to the Busted Bra Shop.
Free People representatives didn’t immediately respond to an email asking when the store is expected to open. It will be located in a Bedrock-owned building called The Lofts at Merchant Row, a 61,000-square-foot building that includes stores such as the Nike Community Store and restaurant The Hudson Cafe.
Free People joins a few other retailers who have announced in recent weeks that they’re opening stores in downtown Detroit, including Gardner White, which is opening a GW HOME store that will sell a “curated selection” of furniture, home decor and accessories, and an Apple Store.
Apple also announced Monday that it plans to open an Apple Manufacturing Academy later this year in downtown Detroit.
Free People is owned by Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters Inc., which also owns brands such as the lifestyle brand Anthropologie and the clothing rental subscription service Nuuly. Free People is known for its bohemian clothing, and it also sells activewear, shoes and accessories, among other products.
There are two other Free People stores in Michigan, at Somerset mall in Troy and in Grand Rapids.
Daily Detroit was first to report that the store is opening.
