An electrifying showdown unfolded on the cricket field on Tuesday, March 4, as the Rohit Sharma-led India locked horns against the Steve Smith-led Australia in the spellbinding semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025. The match was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. During the day and night match, the two heavyweights battled, and Australia set up a competitive total of 264 runs. For the men in blue, Australia’s swashbuckling opener Travis Head was the big threat. But amid the looming threat, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the cricketer in his first over of the contest.
Ever since he took the wicket, several fans have flocked to Instagram to laud his achievement. But instead of crediting Chakaravarthy for Travis Head’s dismissal, fans credited Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, owing to the common name. Joining in the amusing banter, the actor responded to a fan in the comments section with a cheeky reply.
When a fan commented, “Thank you Varun bhai, Travis Head ka wicket lene,” Varun Dhawan responded, “Mystery Spinner.”
A few hours ago, the Baby John actor took to his Instagram stories to clear the air after fans mistook him for Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy. He wrote, “For all the messages I am getting, please follow the real mystery spinner @chakaravarthyvarun. Well played. I’m glad BBCI picked you over me.”
Speaking about Varun Dhawan’s cinematic front, the actor was last seen in Baby John alongside Keerthy Suresh. Now, he is gearing up for the release of his upcoming Shashank Khaitan directorial, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, the family romance will also feature Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra, Manish Paul, Abhinav Sharma, and Akshay Oberoi in key roles.
He will also be seen in Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty starrer Border 2. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is set in the highly secluded military cantonment areas of Jhansi and is scheduled to be released in theatres during Republic Day 2026. Besides Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Border 2, Varun also has Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai in his pipeline.
